A Mala is a set of beads commonly used by Tibetan Buddhists.This 108 bead Mala was handmade in Northen India out of Bone and stained in a beautifully rich Pale Turquoise. This is a Tibetan "Chupshi" Mala which has counters in the shape of a Dorje. Individual bead diameter is approximately 8mm. Malas are used for keeping count while reciting, chanting, or mentally repeating a mantra or the name or names of a deity. This practice is known in Sanskrit as japa.
